A Day With the Sandhill Cranes

Early in March Monte Vista, Colorado fills up with bird watchers and nature lovers of all kinds.  The annual Sandhill Crane Festival attracts hundreds of visitors eager to see the Cranes stopping over on their spring migration. Thousands of winged visitors fill the fields and the skies each year.  Bus tours with wildlife experts go out to the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge to get an up close and personal look at these magnificent cranes! There will also be a craft fair inside the Ski-Hi Park complex with art booths, food vendors, and children’s activities. When the Cranes gather at the Wildlife Refuge 6 miles south of Monte Vista the sound of their calls fills the air and their mating dances are a sight you won’t want to miss.
